1.In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My opening sequence uses boxing film conventions of real media products. I have watched different examples of boxing films such as 'Rocky' 'Ali' And 'Raging Bull'. All of these films opening sequences have inspired me to develop the conventions to make it even better in my media product. I used the different camera shots, editing, sound, effects that all of these films have used and combined in into my opening sequence. The camera shots that was most common that I have used in my media product are wide shot, mid shot and close up. Wide shot is a convention for boxing films as it shows the whole scene and set of the area, therefore giving the audience an insight on the location. I used mid shot to get more detail into the camera frame to give the audience more of a feel of what the actor is doing. This is also a convention for boxing films as it is close enough to give you more information and detail on what the actor is doing, but not close enough to get emotionally connected with the actor. Lastly I used the close up nearer to the end of the opening sequence to get the audience emotionally involved with the character so they can start to form assumptions. The editing that I have followed in my media product is from the opening sequence of the film 'Ali'. I followed the conventions as you can see in my media product by changing shots frequently to different locations and different actions. The sound I have used follows all three films as I kept it similar by using music that gets you focused so it can take not just the actor, but the audience through the training sequence that the actor goes through.
2.How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My opening sequence represents the social economic class of C1 and C2. This is because it relates to the audience of employment as they are aware of the sport boxing and have knowledge about it. Also they may be involved in taking part in the activity of boxing at a club for exercise. My opening sequence can also relate to the social economic class of E as it relates to the non working which are normally the youth. It relates to the youth because they are very aware of the sport boxing and there are various clubs and schemes that gets the youth involved in taking part in boxing activities for exercise Boxing is also relatively cheap and easy to get involved in as it doesn't involve in buying personal equipment, so all social classes can be the audience so it gives the film a range, however individually targets C1 C2 and E.
3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
I would use Chartoff- Winkler Productions to create my film as they have produced some good and successful boxing films in the past. The films that they have produced are such films as 'Rocky' in 1976 and 'Raging Bull' in 1980. I would use this production company to create my film as they share the same view that I have when it comes to boxing films. I have learned from the opening sequences of their films to use the range of shots and music to make it engaging for the audience. I will use MGM Home Entertainment to distribute my film as they have been consistent when distributing Chartoff- Winkler Productions movies, as they made profits and got the audience needed to support the film.
4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my media product will be an audience who prefer action and drama films. Also an audience who are boxing fans that like to watch boxing and can relate to the whole situation of training for a fight and the controversies involved with the boxing industry. The age rating for my media product will be 12A as it involves action with blood meaning it cannot be less than a 12A as blood is shown. Within my media product which is an opening sequence there is no blood shown but within the actual film there is.
5. How did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted my audience through the distributor that I used, as they have distributor over 227 films which where successful and have a large based audience that will help support my media product when distributed I have attracted my audience through the use of the dress-code and stereotypes of a boxer. In my opening sequence my actor is showing a lot of exercise which could gain a sporty audience to come and watch the film as well as the targeted audience. I also attracted my audience through the music I have used, as it gives the film a bigger ranged audience as it can relate to a younger audience as the song i have chosen is from a young generation.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have learnt quite a lot of things about the technology and programmes used when making films during my time creating my opening sequence. I have learnt that different shot types and edits show meaning different and using a certain type of shot or consistent edit can lose or gain an audience.. By using Adobe Premiere Pro, I was able to edit the filming of my opening sequence to substantial quality, which makes my opening sequence more engaging and interesting for the audience. I learnt how effective such things as music, cross fade dissolve and slow motion can be. A lot of these edits are done within professional films and openings, so I have taken knowledge from that and applied it to my opening sequence to give it more of a professional feel.
7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?
Looking back at my preliminary task, I can see the basics that I learn't from it and how I have improved and developed from the basics to more advanced filming, and editing. From the preliminary task It shows that I have worked on my camera work. By this I mean that i developed my camera work and used more of a range of shots. You can see in my preliminary task that I used just one specific camera shot for the whole sequence. I learn't that isn't the right thing to do in the media market, so I adjusted myself to use a wide range of camera shots during my opening sequence which I executed well. This will allow my media product to look more professional and very appealing to the audience. I also learn't that the title needs to be chosen correctly. By this I mean that I am now able to apply text that corresponds nicely with my media product. I am able to make sure the text matches the colour context to make my media product more visually appealing. In my preliminary task, when using a sound , I wasn't able to apply sound transition to the task. Now in my media product, I was able to do this to have more of a professional effect on the audience. As well as this , I have now improved my scene transitions In my preliminary task, my scenes was an element I struggled with and you could see this during the task. But now with my media product , the scene transitions are very smooth and pleasing to the eye. My whole media product looks fluent because of this which make the media product very professional. I had the opportunity to really develop my editing from this and apply a new range of transitions in my final edit.
